What to check when only one desk phone is offline
Objective
Restore one offline desk phone without restarting shared network equipment.
When to use this
Use this guide when one phone has no power, no dial tone, or displays No Service or Unregistered, while other phones at the location still work.
Do not factory-reset the phone or restart a shared router, firewall, modem, or network switch unless your IT administrator or Automated Telecom Support instructs you to do so.
Steps
Stage 1 — Check power and cabling
- Confirm whether the phone's screen is on.
- Check that the network cable is securely connected to the phone's Internet, LAN, or network port.
- Check the cable at the wall jack, network switch, or power adapter.
- If the phone uses a separate power adapter, confirm that it is connected.
- If available, test with a known-working cable or wall jack.
Stage 2 — Restart the phone
- Disconnect the phone's power adapter.
- If the phone receives power through the network cable and has no adapter, disconnect the network cable instead.
- Wait 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the cable.
- Allow the phone several minutes to start and register.
Verification
- Confirm that the offline or registration message disappears.
- Place an outbound test call.
- Call the extension and confirm that the phone rings.
- Confirm two-way audio.
Expected result: The phone can place and receive calls normally.
